I&E Technician II
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Production Foreman, this position is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, electrical, and SCADA control systems supporting field production operations. Will work closely with Operations and Engineering to minimize production impacts, enhance equipment reliability, and maintain compliance with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, ISA, and company standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot field instrumentation devices for process equipment including flow, temperature, and pressure devices, as well as analytical equipment and instrumentation.
- Install, calibrate, inspect, and troubleshoot instruments and electrical equipment in accordance with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, ISA, and company standards.
- Identify, interpret, and effectively use drawings and documentation related to electrical and process controls; interpret schematics to troubleshoot problems and perform database maintenance administration.
- Interpret and troubleshoot PLC and DCS logic
- Work safely on AC and DC distribution systems from 12 VDC to 600 VAC.
- Troubleshoot and repair motor control circuits and equipment including VFDs, motors, and motor control circuits.
- Install and adjust measuring and control devices, signal transmitters, meters, and signal pickups.
- Participate in a wide variety of skilled tasks including installation, repair, troubleshooting, planning, modification, design, and calibration of instrumentation, SCADA control, and electrical systems.
- Develop written procedures for instrumentation and electrical equipment maintenance and inspection.
- Plan and direct procurement of repair parts and material for electrical and instrument systems for project and maintenance purposes.
- Support operations to minimize production impacts and enhance reliability.
- Practice awareness concerning issues of health, safety, and the environment; cooperate with colleagues to anticipate and resolve hazardous and/or unusual situations (oil spills and line leaks, inclement weather, etc.).
- Respond to emergencies and participate in emergency response preparedness.
- Perform other various tasks as assigned by the Foreman.
The work required for this position cannot be performed remotely. Must be capable and willing to work overtime as required and participate in an on-call rotation, with the ability to respond to call-outs. Record keeping and data entry while on-shift, operational notes and reports, and participation in on-site safety meetings and drills are required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Able to run rigid conduit and wire, and capable of performing terminations.
- Able to work independently at construction sites, plan delivery of job material, and coordinate in-house and subcontracted resources.
- Ability to apply the principles of operation of all meters and instruments used in applicable I&E work.
- Self-driven and motivated; should not require daily guidance for managing workload.
- Able to communicate daily with the Production Foreman and Engineering regarding I&E issues in the respective area.
- Able to work with a diverse team; has integrity, good communication skills, and a positive attitude.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure production environment.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry into electronic databases; able to use and navigate business applications including operations software, and proficient with MS Office.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited, state-certified program.
- Certifications from trade schools and/or professional organizations are preferred.
- Knowledge of operating and maintaining equipment within manufacturing and oil and gas facilities preferred.
- Possess a valid driver's license; CDL a plus (may be required in some locations).
Physical Requirements:
As part of the job description, I&E technicians are required to drive to various well sites and facilities within an assigned area. Field employees will travel to and in remote areas and may be exposed to severe and dangerous weather and driving conditions at times. Must be capable of lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. and capable of rigorous outdoor activity with the manual dexterity and physical ability to work extended hours, including climbing, bending, kneeling, squatting, working with arms extended above the head, twisting the upper body, standing for long periods, working in confined spaces, exposure to extreme weather conditions, driving a vehicle, and operation of forklifts and light industrial equipment.
